How to Install Apple's X11 on a Mac
In order to run XTrackCAD on a Mac you will need to (first) install the X11 Window Server. This page walks you through how to install X11 from the Apple OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Install DVD. The procedure for OS X 10.5 (Leopard) is very similar, with only minor differences.NOTE: There do seem to be some yet-to-be-diagnosed issues with using XTrackCAD with OS X 10.7 (Lion). If you have not yet upgraded to Lion, you may want to wait. If you figure out what's wrong, please post a bug report. That will help us fix the problem faster.
X11 is not available from Apple for 10.4 (Tiger).
- Insert the Install DVD into your DVD drive.
- Double-Click the "Optional Installs" folder on the Finder window that pops up.
- Double-Click the "Optional Installs.mpkg" file in the new window that pops up.
- Click through the installer's Introduction, License, and Destination Select steps.
- At the Installation Type step, click the triangle next to "Applications".
- Click the checkbox next to "X11".
- Click "Continue", then click "Install".
Once you've installed X11, you should be able to install and run XTrackCAD on your Mac.
You may want to run "Software Update" on your Mac after installing X11, to make sure you've downloaded and installed any updates that may have come out since your install DVD was made.
You may optionally choose to install the XQuartz X11 server instead. XQuartz is the open-source project from which Apple derives its X11 server, so XQuartz tends to be a little bit ahead of Apple X11 in terms of bug fixes, updates, and new features. Either version will work fine with XTrackCAD.
